ABOUT US
Great Tearooms of America is owned and operated by the British Teatime company, the husband and wife collaboration of Tony Smith and Denise LeCroy*, who are proud of the unique history of the American tearoom.
Our purpose is twofold. First, to showcase the tearooms of America on the most sophisticated guide on the Internet today.
Secondly, to support America's tearoom owners by providing them with all the resources they need (and more!) to make their tearoom the very best that it can be.
If you are a tearoom owner, register here to take advantage of everything we have to offer.
OUR MAIN IMAGE
The image at the top of our web pages is based on the 'Balloons and Confetti Window' from the Avery Coonley Playhouse, Riverside, Illinois (1912) by Frank Lloyd Wright. Wright used balloons, checkerboard patterns (representing confetti) and an American flag to create a complex, abstract, asymmetrical design reminiscent of a parade. The nonobjective, geometric patterns are considered Wright's greatest achievement in art-glass.
We chose this image as it was designed at a time when tearooms in America were at their peak and reflect the wider Arts and Crafts movement which included Rennie Mackintosh who had a major influence in tearoom design.

*Tony, a native Londoner, consumed copious quantities of tea whilst conceptualizing and building this website. His long-suffering wife, Denise (also known as Tea Lover Denise), supplied the scones, and may have helped with a paragraph or two.
